Man, what a weekend.
On Friday I talked about how last week was shaping up to be my laziest week of the year. It was certainly my laziest week since I’ve been training for the Bluegrass Half Marathon. I only logged 3 miles for the week and I don’t even want to talk about it. I’m embarrassed and I’m disappointed in myself but, I mean, it was one week. It’s not going to hurt me.
At least I hope not.
I made up for my sedentary week starting on Saturday morning at 8am with a one-hour boot camp class that included running battle ropes, cable machine pull-ups, TRX squats, medicine ball twists, kettlebell figure-8s, dumbbell skull crushers, barbell rows and hanging knee raises.
At 10:00 I had a personal training session with my boy Joseph. Joseph likes working with the focus mitts so after a quick warm-up we did about four rounds with the mitts, three rounds on the uppercut bag and then two rounds on the double-ended bag. Joseph then joined his mom for my T-75 (12-round) class at 11:00. When my class ended, I had put in three hours of exercise. I figured it was okay that I missed my weekend long run.
Oh, Joseph and I also let everyone attend a free gun show after class…
On Sunday, I hit the gym a little early to shoot a quick video I’ll talk about below but then I thought it would be a good idea to do a Crossfit-inspired workout in the weight room before my 1:00 class. I did deadlifts, cleans, thrusters and pull-ups starting at 5 reps and down to 1 for a total of 5 sets each for time. I finished 60 reps in about 7:00. I don’t know if that’s good. What I do know is that I was hurting shortly after.
That was quick…
My 1:00 boxing class was well-attended and resulted in a friend signing a contract and texting me today that she can’t feel her arms. I’d say we did something right.
Anyway, here’s how this week is supposed to work:
- Monday: 5:45am Boxing at TITLE Boxing Club
- Tuesday: 3 Mile Run, Cross-Training Back, Triceps, Calves and Hamstrings
- Wednesday: 5:45am Boxing at TITLE Boxing Club, 5 Mile Evening Run
- Thursday: 7:00pm Kickboxing at TITLE Boxing Club
- Friday: Long Run — 9 Miles
- Saturday: Rest
- Sunday: 1:00 T-75 ALL STAR Boxing at TITLE Boxing Club
I won’t be able to do my proper cross-training this weekend so I’m sticking it in there on Tuesday morning. This will be the final workout of the final phase of the workout plan I built myself months ago. I’ll be ready to start on something knew and I’ll be talking a lot about it whenever I decide what that new thing actually is.
So what’s Over the Edge? I’m glad you asked…
From now until Sunday, August 20, we’re helping one of our members — and one of our best kickboxers — WATE’s Gabriella Pagan with a thrilling fundraising event where participants get to rappel down the side of the 12-story Langley building in downtown Knoxville with the proceeds benefitting the Village at The Restoration House. The Village was put together by the Restoration House and The Emerald Youth Foundation to help low-income single mother families with transitional housing, mentoring, family advocacy and youth development to empower these mothers and their children to break the cycle of poverty.
For the rest of this week, you can buy boxing class packages at TITLE Boxing Club with a donation to Gabby’s Over the Edge campaign! A $30 donation will earn you three free classes and a $50 donation will earn you SIX free classes. These are killer deals and we do not offer these class packages anywhere else.
And it gets even better! When you come into TITLE Boxing Club Knoxville all this week, you’ll find jars along the front counter with the names of our trainers written on them. Drop a few bucks into the jar of your favorite trainers and the amount of money we raise in those jars will correlate with the number of burpees, push-ups or squats we have to do on Sunday the 20th. Every two bucks equals one rep so fill those jars up!
Speaking of Sunday the 20th, we’re wrapping up this campaign with Gabby at 1:00 with an All-Star T-75 class — that’s 15 minutes of warm-up, 15 minutes of core and 12 rounds all split between our group of all-star trainers. It’s a FREE event for everyone with your donation to Over the Edge — come get your sweat on for an awesome cause!
If you want to hear what I just wrote out along with a few snazzy visuals (seriously, I just re-wrote the script I used), check out the video below. Come see me this week at the Club and help a good cause!
